Go Green Cinema

The Go Green Cinema (GGC) project, led by Kinoatelje together with the Motovila Institute, aims to enhance and equalize access to high-quality cinema in the cross-border Slovenian-Italian region.

The GGC project aims to establish a network of cultural venues on both sides of the border, equipped with modern mobile equipment for screening digital cinema content (DCP) in local communities.

Through professional training programmes, we will train technical staff and cultural tourism operators to deliver innovative and sustainable cultural events, while empowering and encouraging them to establish partnerships in a wider European space.

A project aimed at improving access to high-quality film content in the cross-border Slovenian-Italian region and to stimulate development of environmentally sustainable cultural programme in this local area.

Project partners: Kinoatelje (leader), Motovila

Duration: December 18, 2023 – December 17, 2025

The Go Green Cinema project – GGC is funded by the European Union through the Small Projects Fund of the GO! 2025 Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 program, managed by EGTC GO.

Motovila brings to the project expertise in international and cross-sectoral cooperation and promotes sustainable development within the cultural sector. We will organise training sessions, promote the implementation of sustainable measures in practice, and analyse environmental impacts, which will form the basis for developing a manual for the green staging of cultural events.

Motovila’s role in the project

Motovila will contribute to the project with its extensive knowledge of international and cross-sectoral cooperation, as well as help promote the sustainable development of the cultural sector. Motovila will strive to encourage changes in the practices of cultural operators so they can include green aspects both in the design and implementation of their activities and in their daily work.

In cooperation with experts, Motovila will design a professional training programme aimed at providing representatives of cultural organisations with practical knowledge and competences in the field of implementing green practices.

In parallel, we will monitor the implementation of activities of the mobile cinema Go Green Cinema (GGC), through which our partner Kinoatelje will bring quality film programs to more remote areas of the cross-border Slovenian-Italian region. The monitoring aims to promote the introduction of sustainable measures in practice and analyse their environmental impacts, which will serve as a basis for the developing a manual for the green implementation of cultural events.

The activities will conclude with a conference in the fall of 2025 in Gorizia (IT) within the cross-border film festival Poklon viziji (Tribute to a Vision).

Project area and long-term sustainability

The project covers the entire cross-border territory, including Nova Gorica, Gorizia, Soča Valley, Brda, Vipava Valley, Trnovo and Banjšica Plateau, Karst and more. It aims to bring film culture to remote areas lacking adequate infrastructure for professional film screenings. The project will engage the wider cross-border public, including local residents, foreign visitors, and participants of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 programmes.

Public events and other activities will be held in 2024 and 2025, with a long-term goal of making acquired knowledge and equipment available to other cultural event organisers in the cross-border area beyond 2025. The educational content will encourage network partners to continue developing new content and strengthening a sustainable local cultural offer. The GGC project provide access to cutting-edge technology and the knowledge to organise events sustainably and network effectively at the European level.
