International artist-in-residence (AiR) programmes share many common features (we outlined the basic characteristics in the article HERE), yet they can differ greatly from one another. Each program, through its own approach, may highlight different aspects of an artist’s practice, so they can be classified in several ways.
For example, typologies can be based on the activities artists engage in during their residency, on the characteristics of the programs, or on the expectations of AiR program organizers. Read on to learn about the different types of AiR programs and how they can be categorized; a few examples from the Slovenian AiR landscape will serve to illustrate this.
