Entry FeeFree of charge

Gibellina, Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026, and Selinunte will host the second meeting of the Mediterranean Creative Europe Desks from 22 to 24 June 2026.

The event will also be open to the public and will provide an opportunity to explore the funding opportunities offered by European programmes, including Creative Europe, Horizon Europe Cluster 2, Interreg and the New European Bauhaus, for the cultural and creative sectors. It will highlight the experiences of beneficiaries and strengthen cooperation among countries, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean region.

The programme on 22 June will be dedicated to European and national policies for the Mediterranean, as well as a showcase of projects co-funded by the Creative Europe Culture Sub-programme. The day of 23 June will focus on the Cross-sectoral and MEDIA strands of Creative Europe. All panels will be held in English.

On the final day, 24 June, an informal meeting of representatives of the Council of Europe Cultural Routes will take place, offering participants the opportunity to learn more about a network that promotes the Council of Europe’s core principles and values through cultural heritage and tourism: human rights, cultural democracy, cultural diversity, mutual understanding and cross-border exchange. Cultural Routes serve as instruments of intercultural dialogue and contribute to a deeper knowledge and understanding of European history.

Mateja Lazar will attend the meeting on behalf of Creative Europe Desk Slovenia. She will be joined by Tanja Hladnik, director of the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema international film festival.

Why Gibellina?

Gibellina was designated Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026 with the project Bring Me the Future (Portami il Futuro), which will unfold through a series of initiatives dedicated to contemporary art and creativity. These initiatives will range from cultural planning and urban regeneration to restoration projects and the development of a shared vision for the future, grounded in the recognition of beauty as a common and regenerative value.

Gibellina is also a place of particular interest for the film and audiovisual sectors. Among its most iconic landmarks is the Cretto di Burri, a monumental land artwork that preserves the memory of the town destroyed by the 1968 earthquake.

The first meeting of the Mediterranean Desks took place in Brussels on 3 October 2025 and served as a platform for discussing the role of the Desks in supporting cultural cooperation across the Mediterranean region and promoting participation in the Programme, drawing also on feedback from beneficiaries. The agenda will be available online shortly.

The Gibellina and Selinunte meeting is organised by the Creative Europe Desk Italy, Culture Office and MEDIA Office, in cooperation with the Creative Europe Culture Desks of France, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus, Malta and Tunisia, as well as the Creative Europe MEDIA Desks of Greece, Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia and Cyprus.
